Your 3 month checklist before moving to Dubai


In the lead up to your move to Dubai, there will be a million and one things to do and achieve (if not more) prior to hopping on the plane. 


Write down all of your jobs and aim to tick off a few each week so that it’s not too overwhelming the closer to your departure date gets. The goal is to enjoy the process and make the most of your time with friends and family before embarking on your new adventure.


2-3 months before

  • Book flights.
  • Check passports, and renew them if there are less than six months left on arrival.
  • Take a digital copy passport photo, with 15 printed copies.
  • Get all important documents attested as early as possible.
  • Re-new your credit and debit cards and receive new expiry dates.

1 month before

  • Change contact details such as mail and phone number, with all companies.
  • Cancel your phone, internet and other utility services.
  • Arrange mail forwarding to family or friends.
  • Sell your vehicles, transfer registrations, and cancel toll cards.
  • Pack up your belongings, sell or arrange storage.
  • Engage with an accountant on international tax.

2 weeks before

  • Let your bank know that you’re travelling overseas with your departure dates and countries visiting.
  • Purchase VPN.
  • Purchase travel insurance.
  • Print all important documents, and upload it to the cloud.
  • Hit the shops for last-minute items like suitcases, clothes and headphones.


1 week before

  • Pack your luggage, weigh it and re-pack it. 
  • Book any additional airline baggage you may need in advance. 
  • Organise dinner and time to spend with family and friends.
  • Organise your airport transfer.
